Pastor Gregg Tipton, How to be an Overcomer, Part 3
Since the time of Babylon, words have been important. The people who began to build the tower of of Babylon were united by a single language. God determined that this unity would make it possible for them to accomplish whatever they sat their hands to. But that primitive culture was not ready for that kind of power, so God confused their language, to limit their ability to realize their plans.
In the book of Daniel we read that Daniel pledged to be true to God, even though it meant that he would be cast into the lion's den. And the three Hebrew children pledged to be true to God though it meant that they would be cast into the fiery furnace. These three men said that, whether God saved them, or even if He didn't, they would not bow to the golden image. And as it turned out, God did save them. Because their words, the words of overcomers, proved their faith.
May we learn from these passages in the book of Daniel how important it is to choose our words, carefully, to be wise in proclaiming our plans for the future, and to be definite and assertive in proclaiming our faith and trust in God.
