Pastor Gregg Tipton, Genesis - Part 3
The book of Genesis reveals God's love for life, evidenced by the abundance of living things and varied lifeforms that He created. When the Earth was new, every ecological niche was full of every kind of life. But He made humankind to be caretakers over nature. While we have a lot in common with animals, there is much that makes us unique and set apart from the beasts of the Earth. God breathed into the first humans, so we became living souls, who continue after physical death. God made us higher than the animals so that we might care for both the land and the animals. But they disobeyed God and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
As men and women were made to care for nature and the animal kingdom, it is worth noting on this Father's Day that the husband in the home was meant to care and provide for his family. Every duckling has one to care for it and guide it into adult life, and that parental authority comes from God. In the same way, a man's authority in the home comes from God, so that he may be empowered to care for his family and to have authority to protect and guide them into their best life. Which he can only do if he respects and adheres to Biblical guidelines, seeing that scripture teaches men how to be great fathers and husbands.
